Prescription or over-the-counter pharmacologic pain management for symptomatic relief and control.

Pharmacologic pain management is shown to alleviate pain symptoms by administering prescription (Rx) or over-the-counter (OTC) medications. This form of pain treatment is less focused on eradicating all of your pain, and more concerned with reducing how much pain you have and how often it occurs. If you are considered a good candidate for pharmacologic pain management, there are a variety of medications from which your physician may choose to administer, prescribe, or recommend. These medications include but not limited to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), neuropathic agents, opioid analgesics, muscle relaxants, corticosteroids, and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs).

Medicine MIPMPCWhether prescribed or available over-the-counter, there are risks – potential side effects, drug interaction, possible addiction or liver damage – associated with many medications. It is important that you tell your physician about any allergies, current medications, and use of vitamins or herbal supplements before taking any of the medications aforementioned. To discern predisposed or genetic conditions, you may also be asked to disclose your medical history and your family’s medical history. Pharmacologic pain management may just be the treatment that works best for your acute or chronic pain condition. If so, our pain management center will help you find the pain relief you need for the more active life you deserve.
